Ecuadorean Adventures: At Sacha Lodge

Once arrived at the Lodge we had
opportunity to settle in and enjoy
our new surroundings...

including wonderful views out over the lake.
Here caiman lurked, and pirana swam....and so
did I (although not after sundown when the caiman
become active!) I had a wonderful swim right around
the lake, watching a straited heron fishing only a few
meters away and keeping my eyes out for hoatzin
who were to be seen flapping clumsily about in the
fringing vegetation.

The black water was wonderfully reflective

Our accomodation was in comfortable cabins

...complete with a hammock out on the back balcony!

It was all very comfortable....and we were fed
very well....

Over the next few days we spotted interesting
mammals such as this agouti.. (a rodent the size of a
small dog)

...a black-mantled tamarin (a small monkey!)

and a pygmy marmoset!! The smallest primate
of all!

We also had an opportunity to visit the Lodges
butterfly farm.....

...while more hair-raising invertebrates make

their home nearby (within 15 meters of my cabin!)
